• Open-source only — Closed-source firmware means you can’t verify its security. Ledger’s Recover debacle is a cautionary tale.
• At least two devices — One for daily use, one for cold storage. Spread the risk.
• Touchscreen first — Physical buttons make complex transactions painful, especially entering passwords and verifying addresses.
• Seed phrase offline — Steel plate engraving > paper. Never photograph or store on any internet-connected device.

Keystone 3 Pro $149 Formerly the Cobo cold wallet. The earliest large-screen touch solution. Fully open-source + air-gapped QR code signing. Though I still prefer the heft of the older model. Ledger Nano X $149 Accompanied me through the DeFi era — went through several. Rarely used since the Recover service launch; I only use open-source products now.
